There’s obviously a lot going on in our country right now with the Cohen thing, The Green New Deal, and other stuff, too. To me, these are all distractions from something important that is also happening: amazing television. It’s honestly too much to communicate in an Instagram story so I put together a list of shows I’m enjoying. Just because I like them doesn’t mean you will like them and if you don’t, feel free to keep that to yourself.
Have you ever watched a show and thought that it was made specifically for you? That’s how I feel about pen15. A half hour comedy about best friends in 7th grade, set in pre-9/11 America? I’m sold. The main characters are played by 30 year olds, which I was unsure about at first. It really, really works. I worried about triggering my tween/teen angst when I heard about the concept (like when I tried to watch Freaks & Geeks). It wasn’t an issue here. The pilot sets things up nicely and it only gets better from there.
The Other Two (Comedy Central)
A show about 2 older siblings and how their lives change when their little brother becomes a YouTube sensation. Yes I’m on board! This is show has everything I could ever want: a successful youngest sibling, boys kissing, lots of references, and Molly Shannon. The family all gets along which we love. Just tell me one thing: HOW DID THE DAD DIE??
The Assassination of Gianni Versace (Netflix)
OK, I’m a little late on this one. My cousin told me I would like this show and she was right. I had no idea the story surrounding Gianni Versace’s murder and let me tell you it’s a wild ride. This show is difficult to watch at times. Lots of hot men. Truth is stranger than fiction.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix)
The second half of the final season is out and it doesn’t disappoint. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, the casting for this show is just the best. Put Titus Andromedon in every show. A very fitting end to the series and we get an important homage to Sliding Doors. I hope more shows follow suit.
Better Things (Hulu/FX)
I slept on this show for too long. I think I avoided it because the promos/marketing made it seem like it’s mostly Pamela Adlon yelling at her kids and that is simply not the case! The tone of the show is very sweet show and the writing is so good it makes me made. Also this interview is a great read. Catch up on Hulu and then start watching season 3 on FX.
The Kaminsky Method (Netflix)
Kiddddding. I’ve never watched one single moment of this show.
CATCH UP BEFORE SEASON 2
Bill Hader is so good in this. I would’ve been OK if the show was a single season but I’m curious to see where it goes next. Season 2 premieres 3/31.
Killing Eve (Hulu)
The acting! The accents! The fashion! The murder :) The hype is all warranted. Please believe me. Season 2 premieres 4/7.
That’s it for now! I don’t have a tv show at the moment but I hope when I do, some random folks on the internet say nice things about it.
In the meantime, you can see me live at Union Hall on 3/18 for DRAG HIS ASS. Tickets here.
